Utah State Capitol Bridal Session After the Wedding | A + S

A + S’s Utah State Capitol bridal session was a chance to get dressed up again, enjoy being married, and make beautiful portraits together without a wedding timeline to follow. They wanted to save their first look for the wedding day, so we planned this session afterward. By the time we met for photos, the big day was behind them and they could settle into the experience and have fun.

And they did. These two were so happy and so in love, which made photographing them such a joy. The Capitol gave their session the classy setting they wanted, while their connection made the photographs feel personal.

Classic style for a Utah State Capitol bridal session

The marble interior was such a beautiful match for their wedding looks. A’s off-the-shoulder gown and sweeping train paired with S’s white tuxedo jacket, black lapels, and bow tie for a classic look against the stone architecture. The clean palette let their outfits and expressions stand out, with A’s red lip adding a little color.

I love a location that gives a portrait room to breathe. In the image below, the scale of the marble walls frames them together, while the curve of A’s train brings movement into the photograph. It feels elegant, but it still feels like them.

Saving the first look for the wedding day

There is so much conversation around first looks before the ceremony, but your portraits can be planned around what matters most to you. For A + S, seeing each other for the first time on their wedding day was important. Scheduling their bridal session afterward gave them a way to keep that experience and still have dedicated time for portraits together.

A separate session can happen before or after the wedding. What I love is the freedom it gives us to make thoughtful photographs at a pace that feels comfortable. A + S chose the timing that fit their priorities, and it worked beautifully for them.

Bridal portraits after the wedding: time to enjoy it

There was something especially sweet about photographing these two after they were already married. The planning was done, the celebration had happened, and now they had another reason to put on their wedding clothes and spend time together.

We could pause, try something different, and enjoy the session without needing to get them back to a reception or the next part of the day. Their happiness came through so easily. It was a reminder that wedding portraits do not all have to happen within the same few hours.

If you are considering bridal portraits after your wedding, think about what you would love to have more time for. Maybe that is a location separate from your venue, photographs that show off your full wedding look, or simply a quieter experience together. You can still make portraits on your wedding day and use a separate session to explore those ideas with more time.

A + S’s session held both the elegance of their wedding style and the ease of being newlyweds. It was such an enjoyable way to celebrate this part of their lives, and I am so glad we gave it its own space.
